Pinterest addiction…

Hi, my name is Julie and I’m addicted to Pinterest.  (“Hi, Julie!”)

What a wonderful idea this website is!  It took a while for me to get on board, but once I did…I can’t stop.  Feel free to follow me (and I’ll follow you back) at:

I have been obsessed with glancing at many pictures of kitchens lately.  Dreaming of what we might be able to have in our next home.  I really want a big center island with room for barstools so that the kids and guests will have a place to gather as we are preparing our meals.  I’m loving darker floors with light cabinetry with a splash of color somewhere; maybe in a curio or with bright dishes/accessories.

I love all the natural light from the windows.  I love that part of the cabinets have a freestanding look about them.  Here is another:

I love the windows in this one.  I’ve been wondering if I can do without a lot of upper cabinets.  I know there are great organizing things for drawers to hold your dishes.  I think we’ll have to check into that.

Prairie Rose Before-and-Afters…

I promised some B&A’s so here we go.  Nothing too fancy except some paint, tile and crown moulding.  That doesn’t include finishing the basement.  Please keep in mind that I did not take these pictures with the intent to share with the world.  I will do better from now on, I promise.  We are selling this house and I thought I would leave the new homeowner pictures of what it looked like when we bought it.  A small scrapbook that includes the pics I am going to post here.  Does that sound corny?  I would love to have something like that, especially if it was an older house.  I will probably do it anyway.  I’ll never know if they thought it was corny or not.  What do you think?

P.S. I realized as I was going through my pictures of the house that I really did not do a good job of taking “after” pics.  For some of them, I ended up using the ones our realtor took when we put the house on the market.  Keep in mind that a lot of “fluff” had been removed to depersonalize.

Original kitchen

source Kitchen - added backsplash and under cabinet lighting

source dining room/kitchen

painted hallway - BM Stone House. Although I love this color, in this house and with the lighting it became too yellow-y. I ended up repainting it Valspar Ivory Brown.

fireplace wall - wall color BM Atmospheric

replacing tile surround

source Painted BM Atmospheric in living room and (at this point) hallway is Valspar Ivory Brown

source In the master bath we painted BM Carolina Gull and added trim around the mirror.

Master Bedroom

kids rooms

source Baby A's room

source Boy's room. This was a bunk bed, but we separated it for showings.

source This was our homeschool area of the basement. It was great having a dedicated area to school at.

Things I love about Prairie Rose:

His/hers closets in master

Larger front porch

Big master suite

Things I hope to have in next home:

Larger dining space (to seat 10)

Mostly one level living

More property

Larger secondary bedrooms

Less builder “character”

Wrap around porch (one can dream can’t she?)

We’ll see how it all plays out.  See you on the flip side!

Going on an “adventure”…

Hello! (Imagine it in a “Mrs. Doubtfire” sorta way)

In 22 days, we will be selling our Sweet Prairie Rose home. It is thrilling and nerve-wracking at the same time. I love adventures! Even with our three kids and huge dog in tow. The nerve-wracking part comes from the fact that we are just going on a wing and a prayer and taking off without a job (as of yet). We want to end up in Tennessee. My husband is a registered nurse and we are currently seeking a travel position. Maybe the Lord is telling us something else though. We are waiting for the (clear and obvious) sign, because that’s the kind of girl I am. I’m all about following signs. It just needs to one of those with an arrow or finger-pointing saying, “This way now.”

Here’s a pic of our current home:

Prairie Rose

We didn't do anything too drastic to this house, but I will post some before-and-afters in the next couple of days.

It has been a great home for us for the last few years.  Our little girl, Baby A, was brought to this home.  We began our homeschooling adventure with JT and JR in this home.  We’ve met wonderful friends in our neighborhood.

However, sometimes it is just time to move on.

Our dream is to have a house on a few acres so that our kids have plenty of space to run and play.  We can garden and keep chickens (ha, still fight Hubby on this one).  We want a home in need of a little lovin’ so we can make our mark on it.  We want for us and our children to be closer to family.  Most of our family is in Florida, which is where we moved from a few years ago.  At the time, it was THE best decision for Hubby and me and our little family.  Now, we feel the best decision is to get back home…or towards it anyway.  We think we will feel at home anywhere in the South because that’s where are roots are.

So, we pray and we hope, and we hope and we pray that this move works out for us.  That we find our “forever home” and finish raising our crew there.

I’ll see ya on the flip side (as I always say to my kids at bedtime).
